Ingredients

  • 500 grams beef sirloin (thinly sliced)
  • 120 ml soy sauce (low-sodium)
  • 75 ml pure maple syrup
  • 30 ml rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon ginger (grated)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 60 ml water
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 stalks scallions (sliced thinly)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (toasted)
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 4 servings steamed white rice (for serving)

Directions

Step 1

In a small bowl, combine soy sauce, maple syrup, rice vinegar, grated ginger, and minced garlic to make the teriyaki sauce.

Step 2

Dissolve the cornstarch in water to create a slurry and set aside.

Step 3

Heat a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat and add the vegetable oil.

Step 4

Add the thinly sliced beef to the skillet in a single layer and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side until browned. Work in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding the pan. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.

Step 5

In the same skillet, pour in the teriyaki sauce mixture and bring it to a simmer over medium heat.

Step 6

While the sauce simmers, gradually whisk in the cornstarch slurry. Continue whisking until the sauce thickens to a glossy consistency, about 1-2 minutes.

Step 7

Return the cooked beef to the skillet and toss to coat it evenly in the sauce. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until the beef is heated through.

Step 8

Drizzle sesame oil over the beef and give it a final toss.

Step 9

Garnish with sliced scallions and toasted sesame seeds.

Step 10

Serve the maple beef teriyaki hot over steamed white rice. Enjoy!
