Ingredients

  • 8 pieces chicken thighs (bone-in, skin-on)
  • 0.333 cup maple syrup
  • 0.5 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your grill to medium heat or preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 2

In a medium bowl, whisk together the maple syrup, ketchup, apple cider vinegar, soy sauce, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, paprika, smoked paprika, black pepper, and salt to create the barbecue sauce.

Step 3

Pat the chicken thighs dry with paper towels and rub them with the olive oil on all sides.

Step 4

Lightly season the chicken thighs with additional salt and black pepper if desired.

Step 5

Reserve 1/3 cup of the barbecue sauce for basting during cooking, and set aside.

Step 6

Place the chicken thighs on the grill skin-side down (or on a baking sheet skin-side up if baking). Cook for 30-40 minutes or until the internal temperature of the chicken reaches 165°F (75°C), turning halfway through and basting with the reserved sauce during the final 10 minutes of cooking.

Step 7

If baking, baste the chicken halfway through cooking by brushing the reserved barbecue sauce onto the chicken thighs, then finishing under the broiler for 2-3 minutes for a slightly charred finish.

Step 8

Remove the chicken from the grill or oven and let it rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Step 9

Serve the Maple Barbecued Chicken with your favorite sides and additional sauce on the side if desired.
