Ingredients

  • 2 Ripe mangoes, peeled and diced
  • 2 Apples, peeled, cored, and diced
  • 1 medium Red onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh ginger, finely grated
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 0.5 cup White vinegar
  • 0.75 cup Brown sugar
  • 0.25 cup Golden raisins
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon Ground coriander
  • 0.5 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon Red chili flakes (optional, for heat)
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.25 cup Water

Directions

Step 1

Peel and dice the mangoes and apples into small, even pieces. Set aside.

Step 2

Finely chop the red onion, and grate or mince the fresh ginger and garlic. Prepare the spices and measure out all remaining ingredients to streamline the cooking process.

Step 3

In a medium saucepan, combine the red onion, grated ginger, and garlic with the white vinegar, brown sugar, and water. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar dissolves.

Step 4

Stir in the diced mangoes, apples, and golden raisins into the saucepan.

Step 5

Add the ground cumin, ground coriander, ground cinnamon, red chili flakes (if using), and salt. Mix well to evenly coat the fruit with the spices.

Step 6

Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, then lower the heat to a simmer. Cook uncovered, stirring occasionally, for 25–30 minutes or until the fruit softens and the mixture thickens to a jam-like consistency. Adjust the heat as necessary to prevent sticking or burning.

Step 7

Taste the chutney and adjust seasoning, adding more salt or chili flakes if desired.

Step 8

Once cooked, remove the saucepan from the heat and allow the chutney to cool slightly. The chutney will thicken further as it cools.

Step 9

Transfer the Mango Apple Chutney to sterilized jars for storage. Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

Step 10

Serve as a condiment with grilled meats, as a topping for cheeses, or as a flavorful spread for sandwiches.
