Ingredients

  • 1 lb beef sirloin steak
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 cup Mandarin orange juice (freshly squeezed or canned)
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp ginger, minced
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 whole red bell pepper, sliced
  • 2 stalks green onions, chopped
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Thinly slice the beef sirloin across the grain into bite-sized strips. Place the beef in a bowl and toss with 2 tablespoons of soy sauce and 1 tablespoon of cornstarch. Let it marinate for 10 minutes.

Step 2

In a small bowl, whisk together Mandarin orange juice, the remaining 1 tablespoon soy sauce, brown sugar, 1 tablespoon cornstarch, and sesame oil. Set aside.

Step 3

Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the marinated beef in batches, cooking for 2-3 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.

Step 4

Add the remaining 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil to the skillet. Sauté the garlic and ginger for 30 seconds until fragrant.

Step 5

Add the sliced red bell peppers to the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes until slightly softened.

Step 6

Return the beef to the skillet, then pour in the Mandarin orange sauce. Stir well and let the sauce thicken, about 2-3 minutes.

Step 7

Turn off the heat and add the chopped green onions. Toss to combine.

Step 8

Serve hot over steamed rice, garnished with sesame seeds if desired.
