Ingredients

  • 1 cup Whole milk
  • 0.25 cup Granulated sugar
  • 0.25 cup Unsalted butter
  • 2.25 teaspoons Active dry yeast
  • 3.5 cups All-purpose flour
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 Large egg
  • 0.75 cup Brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 cup Unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cup Powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons Milk (for glaze)

Directions

Step 1

In a small saucepan, warm the milk until it is just slightly warm (around 105°F). Remove from heat and stir in the granulated sugar and butter until melted.

Step 2

Sprinkle the yeast over the warm milk mixture and let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.

Step 3

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the milk-yeast mixture and the egg. Mix with a wooden spoon or a dough hook attachment on a mixer until a dough forms.

Step 4

Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 8 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Step 5

While the dough is rising, prepare the filling by combining the brown sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl.

Step 6

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a lightly floured surface into a large rectangle (about 12x18 inches). Spread the softened butter evenly over the dough and sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture on top, leaving a small border around the edges.

Step 7

Starting from the long edge, roll the dough tightly into a log. Pinch the seam to seal. Cut the log into 12 equal slices.

Step 8

Arrange the rolls in a greased 9x13-inch baking dish. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes, or until puffed.

Step 9

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.

Step 10

While the rolls are baking, make the glaze by whisking together the powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and 2 tablespoons of milk in a small bowl.

Step 11

Drizzle the glaze over the warm cinnamon rolls as soon as they come out of the oven. Serve and enjoy the magic!
