Ingredients

  • 400 grams elbow macaroni
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup Gruyère cheese, shredded
  • 0.5 cup Parmesan cheese, shredded
  • 120 grams cream cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 0.5 teaspoon paprika
  • 0.5 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons parsley, finely chopped (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 2

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the elbow macaroni according to the package instructions, then drain and set aside.

Step 3

In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the flour, whisking continuously, to form a smooth roux. Cook for about 1-2 minutes, until light golden in color.

Step 4

Slowly add the milk and heavy cream to the roux, whisking constantly to avoid lumps. Continue cooking over medium heat until the sauce thickens, about 4-5 minutes.

Step 5

Reduce the heat to low and stir in the shredded cheddar, Gruyère, Parmesan, and cream cheese until fully melted and smooth.

Step 6

Add the Dijon mustard, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper to the cheese sauce. Mix well to combine.

Step 7

Pour the cheese sauce over the cooked macaroni and stir until the pasta is evenly coated.

Step 8

Transfer the macaroni and cheese mixture to a greased 9x13-inch baking dish.

Step 9

In a small bowl, combine the panko breadcrumbs with olive oil. Sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture evenly over the macaroni and cheese.

Step 10

Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and crisp.

Step 11

Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.

Step 12

Serve hot and enjoy your Macaroni Heaven!
