Ingredients

  • 12 pieces Live blue crabs
  • 1 cup Unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 8 pieces Garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Paprika
  • 0.5 teaspoon Red pepper flakes
  • 1 teaspoon Kosher salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1 piece Lemon, cut into wedges

Directions

Step 1

Rinse the live blue crabs thoroughly under cold water and set them aside.

Step 2

In a large, heavy-bottomed pot or deep skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the olive oil to prevent the butter from burning.

Step 3

Stir in the minced garlic and cook until fragrant, about 2 minutes. Do not let the garlic brown.

Step 4

Add the paprika, red pepper flakes, kosher salt, and black pepper to the butter mixture. Stir to combine.

Step 5

Carefully place the cleaned blue crabs into the pot in a single layer. If necessary, cook them in batches.

Step 6

Cover the pot and cook the crabs over medium heat for 10–12 minutes, or until their shells turn bright red and the meat inside is opaque.

Step 7

Using tongs, turn the crabs occasionally to ensure they are evenly coated in the garlic butter sauce.

Step 8

Once the crabs are fully cooked, sprinkle the chopped parsley over them and give everything a gentle stir.

Step 9

Transfer the crabs to a large serving platter and drizzle the remaining garlic butter sauce over them.

Step 10

Serve immediately with lemon wedges on the side and plenty of napkins for messy, delicious eating!
