Ingredients

  • 500 grams All-purpose flour
  • 50 grams Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 14 grams Instant yeast
  • 250 milliliters Whole milk
  • 50 grams Unsalted butter
  • 1 large Egg
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 1000 milliliters Vegetable oil
  • 200 grams Jam (your choice)
  • 100 grams Powdered sugar

Directions

Step 1

In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and instant yeast.

Step 2

In a small saucepan, heat the milk and butter over low heat until the butter melts. Let it cool until it's lukewarm, then add it to the flour mixture.

Step 3

Add the egg and vanilla extract to the mixture and knead the dough for about 10 minutes until it is smooth and elastic. You can use a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook.

Step 4

Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.

Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air. Roll it out on a floured surface to about 1cm thickness.

Use a doughnut cutter or a round cookie cutter to cut out circles from the dough.

Place the dough circles on a lightly floured baking tray and cover them with a towel. Let them rise for another 30 minutes.

In a heavy-bottomed pan or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 180°C (350°F). Carefully fry the doughnuts in batches, cooking each side for about 1-2 minutes or until golden brown.

Remove the doughnuts from the oil using a slotted spoon and drain them on paper towels.

Using a piping bag fitted with a round tip, fill each doughnut with your choice of jam by inserting the tip into the side of the doughnut and squeezing gently.
