In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and instant yeast.
In a small saucepan, heat the milk and butter over low heat until the butter melts. Let it cool until it's lukewarm, then add it to the flour mixture.
Add the egg and vanilla extract to the mixture and knead the dough for about 10 minutes until it is smooth and elastic. You can use a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook.
Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air. Roll it out on a floured surface to about 1cm thickness.
Use a doughnut cutter or a round cookie cutter to cut out circles from the dough.
