Ingredients

  • 1 lb sirloin steak (thinly sliced)
  • 2 medium jalapeno peppers (seeded and thinly sliced)
  • 1 medium red bell pepper (sliced into strips)
  • 1 medium green bell pepper (sliced into strips)
  • 1 medium onion (sliced into thin wedges)
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 0.25 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 0.25 cup water
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil (divided)
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 4 cups cooked white rice (optional, for serving)

Directions

Step 1

In a bowl, combine soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, and water. Stir in the cornstarch until dissolved to create the sauce mixture. Set aside.

Step 2

Season the sliced steak with black pepper.

Step 3

Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the sliced steak in batches to avoid overcrowding and sear for 1-2 minutes per side until browned but not fully cooked through. Remove the steak and set it aside.

Step 4

Add the remaining 1 tablespoon of oil to the skillet. Toss in the sliced onion, bell peppers, and jalapenos. Stir-fry for 3-4 minutes until the vegetables begin to soften but remain crisp.

Step 5

Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 30 seconds until fragrant.

Step 6

Return the steak to the skillet and pour in the sauce mixture. Stir well to coat everything evenly. Simmer for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens, and the steak is cooked through.

Step 7

Remove the skillet from heat. Serve the jalapeno pepper steak hot over white rice or as desired.
