Ingredients

  • 2 pounds ground beef (80/20 blend)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 8 slices cheddar cheese slices
  • 8 strips bacon strips
  • 3 whole jalapeños (fresh)
  • 4 whole hamburger buns
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 4 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 4 leaves lettuce leaves
  • 1 whole tomato (sliced)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat a grill or stovetop grill pan to medium-high heat.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix gently until just combined. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each portion into a patty about 3/4-inch thick.

Step 3

Slice the jalapeños into thin rings, discarding the seeds if you prefer less heat.

Step 4

Cook the bacon in a skillet over medium heat until crispy, about 5-7 minutes. Remove and drain on a paper towel-lined plate. Set aside.

Step 5

Place the burger patties on the preheated grill. Cook for 4-5 minutes per side, or until the beef reaches your desired level of doneness. During the last 1-2 minutes of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty to melt.

Step 6

While the burgers are cooking, butter the hamburger buns and toast them on the grill or in a skillet until golden brown, about 1-2 minutes.

Step 7

Spread 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise on the cut side of each toasted bun.

Step 8

To assemble, place a lettuce leaf on the bottom bun, followed by a slice of tomato, the cooked burger patty with melted cheese, 2 slices of bacon, and a few jalapeño slices. Top with the other half of the bun.

Step 9

Serve immediately with your choice of sides, such as fries or a fresh salad.
