Ingredients

  • 8 cups (cubed) Day-old bread (French or brioche preferred)
  • 3 cups Whole milk
  • 1 cup Heavy cream
  • 1 cup Granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cup (packed) Brown sugar
  • 4 whole Large eggs
  • 4 tablespoons (melted) Unsalted butter
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 teaspoon Ground nutmeg
  • 0.25 cup Jack Daniels whiskey
  • 0.5 cup Raisins (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons Powdered sugar (for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.

Step 2

Place the cubed bread into a large mixing bowl. If using raisins, toss them in with the bread cubes.

Step 3

In another large bowl, whisk together the milk, cream, granulated sugar, brown sugar, eggs, melted butter, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and Jack Daniels whiskey until thoroughly combined.

Step 4

Pour the wet mixture over the bread cubes and gently toss to ensure all the bread is coated. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes to allow the bread to soak up the liquid.

Step 5

Transfer the soaked bread mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it into an even layer.

Step 6

Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the center is set. A toothpick inserted into the center should come out clean.

Step 7

Remove from the oven and let cool for 10 minutes before serving.

Step 8

Dust with powdered sugar for garnish before serving. Optionally, serve with a drizzle of caramel sauce or a dollop of whipped cream for added indulgence.
