Ingredients

  • 1 lb Ground turkey
  • 0.5 cup Breadcrumbs (preferably Italian-style)
  • 0.25 cup Grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh basil, finely chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried basil)
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh parsley, finely chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried parsley)
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 large Egg, beaten
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon Ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 4 Burger buns (whole wheat or regular)
  • 0.5 cup Marinara sauce, warmed
  • 8 Fresh basil leaves (for topping)
  • 4 Mozzarella cheese slices

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground turkey, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, chopped basil, chopped parsley, minced garlic, beaten egg, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well incorporated.

Step 2

Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into burger patties about 3/4 inch thick.

Step 3

Heat a large skillet or grill pan over medium heat and add the olive oil. Once the oil is hot, place the turkey burger patties in the pan.

Step 4

Cook the burgers for 5-6 minutes on one side without disturbing them. Flip them carefully and cook for an additional 5-6 minutes on the other side, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).

Step 5

During the last 2 minutes of cooking, place a slice of mozzarella cheese on each burger to melt. Cover the pan if needed to help the cheese melt evenly.

Step 6

Toast the burger buns lightly, if desired.

Step 7

To assemble the burgers, spread a spoonful of warmed marinara sauce on the bottom half of each bun. Place the turkey patty on top, followed by fresh basil leaves. Add more marinara sauce if desired and cover with the top half of the bun.

Step 8

Serve immediately with a side of salad, roasted vegetables, or sweet potato fries for a complete meal.
