  • 1 medium, finely chopped Onion
  • 2 minced Garlic cloves
  • 400 grams (1 can) Crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon Tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon Dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon Dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon (adjust to taste) Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon (adjust to taste) Black pepper
  • 50 grams, grated Parmesan cheese
  • 125 grams, grated Mozzarella cheese
  • 2 tablespoons, chopped (optional for garnish) Fresh parsley

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F).

Step 2

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the penne pasta and cook until just al dente according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.

Step 3

Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté for 3-4 minutes until softened and translucent.

Step 4

Add the minced garlic to the skillet and cook for another 1-2 minutes, being careful not to let it burn.

Step 5

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper. Simmer the sauce for 8-10 minutes to allow the flavors to combine.

Step 6

Drain the canned tuna and add it to the tomato sauce, breaking it up with a spoon. Mix well to combine.

Step 7

Add the cooked pasta to the skillet and gently stir to coat the pasta in the sauce evenly.

Step 8

Pour the pasta and sauce mixture into a greased baking dish.

Step 9

Sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese evenly over the top, followed by the grated mozzarella cheese.

Step 10

Bake the dish in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbling with a golden-brown top.

Step 11

Remove from the oven and let the pasta bake cool slightly for a few minutes.

Step 12

Garnish with chopped fresh parsley if desired before serving.
