Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 0.5 pound Italian sausage, casing removed
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 4 cloves garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 medium red bell pepper, diced
  • 28 ounces diced tomatoes, canned
  • 15 ounces tomato sauce
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 15 ounces cannellini beans, drained and rinsed
  • 15 ounces red kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 0.5 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 0.5 cup parmesan cheese, grated (for garnish)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Heat the olive oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium heat.

Step 2

Add the ground beef and Italian sausage to the pot. Cook, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon, until browned, about 7-8 minutes. Drain any excess grease.

Step 3

Add the diced onion and red bell pepper to the pot. Sauté until softened, about 5 minutes.

Step 4

Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute, stirring frequently to avoid burning.

Step 5

Pour in the canned diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, and beef broth. Stir well to combine.

Step 6

Add the cannellini beans and red kidney beans to the pot.

Step 7

Season with dried basil, dried oregano, red pepper flakes, salt, and black pepper. Stir everything together.

Step 8

Bring the chili to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer uncovered for 30 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.

Step 9

Taste and adjust seasoning as necessary.

Step 10

Serve the chili warm in bowls, and garnish with grated parmesan cheese and chopped fresh parsley.
