Ingredients

  • 1 pound Italian sausage
  • 12 pieces Lasagna noodles
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 1 medium Onion, diced
  • 3 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 28 ounces Crushed tomatoes
  • 6 ounces Tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon Dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon Dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 15 ounces Ricotta cheese
  • 1 large Egg
  • 4 cups Mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh parsley, chopped
  • 0.5 cup Water

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 2

Cook the lasagna noodles according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.

Step 3

Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the Italian sausage, breaking it into small pieces, and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.

Step 4

Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Sauté until the onion is translucent, about 3-4 minutes.

Step 5

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, basil, oregano, salt, pepper, and water. Reduce the heat to low and simmer uncovered for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Step 6

In a separate bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, egg, 2 tablespoons of parsley, and 1/2 cup of Parmesan cheese. Mix well and set aside.

Step 7

Spread a thin layer of the sausage sauce on the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish.

Step 8

Layer 4 lasagna noodles on top, followed by 1/3 of the ricotta mixture, 1/3 of the mozzarella cheese, and 1/3 of the remaining sausage sauce.

Step 9

Repeat the layers (noodles, ricotta mixture, mozzarella, sauce) two more times, ending with mozzarella cheese on top.

Step 10

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil, ensuring the foil does not touch the cheese.

Step 11

Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.

Step 12

Remove the lasagna from the oven and let it rest for at least 15 minutes before slicing.

Step 13

Garnish with remaining Parmesan cheese and fresh parsley, if desired. Serve warm and enjoy!
