Ingredients

  • 1 pound Pizza dough
  • 6 slices Thinly sliced salami
  • 6 slices Thinly sliced capicola
  • 6 slices Thinly sliced mortadella
  • 6 slices Provolone cheese
  • 1 cup Shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 0.5 cup Roasted red peppers, drained and chopped
  • 0.25 cup Pepperoncini peppers, sliced
  • 12 leaves Fresh basil leaves
  • 1 large Egg
  • 1 tablespoon Water
  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 cup Marinara sauce (for dipping)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2

Divide the pizza dough into 4 equal portions. Roll each portion into a 6–8 inch diameter circle on a floured surface.

Step 3

Layer 1 1/2 slices each of salami, capicola, mortadella, and provolone cheese on one half of each dough circle, leaving a 1-inch border around the edge.

Step 4

Top the meat and cheese with 1/4 cup of shredded mozzarella, a few pieces of roasted red peppers, a small handful of pepperoncini slices, and 3 fresh basil leaves.

Step 5

In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water to make an egg wash.

Step 6

Brush the edges of the dough circles with the egg wash. Fold the empty half of the dough over the fillings to form a semi-circle. Press the edges firmly to seal, then crimp with a fork to ensure a tight seal.

Step 7

Transfer the calzones to the prepared baking sheet. Brush the tops with olive oil and sprinkle with Italian seasoning.

Step 8

Using a sharp knife, make 2–3 small slits on the top of each calzone to allow steam to escape.

Step 9

Bake in the preheated oven for 18–20 minutes, or until the calzones are golden brown and puffed.

Step 10

Remove from the oven and let cool for 5 minutes before serving.

Step 11

Serve warm with marinara sauce on the side for dipping.
