Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground beef
  • 0.5 pound Italian sausage (mild or spicy)
  • 0.5 cup Breadcrumbs
  • 0.25 cup Grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 large Egg
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon Dried basil
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil
  • 1 cup Marinara sauce
  • 4 slices Mozzarella cheese, sliced
  • 4 pieces Hamburger buns
  • 2 tablespoons Butter, optional
  • 1 cup Arugula or basil leaves (optional, for topping)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, Italian sausage, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, garlic, parsley, oregano, basil, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently with your hands until just combined; avoid overmixing.

Step 2

Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each into a patty, about 1 inch thick.

Step 3

Heat the olive oil in a large skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat.

Step 4

Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C) for fully cooked burgers.

Step 5

Reduce the heat to low, spoon about 2 tablespoons of marinara sauce over each patty, and top with a slice of mozzarella cheese. Cover the skillet with a lid to allow the cheese to melt, about 1-2 minutes.

Step 6

If desired, spread butter on the hamburger buns and toast them in a separate skillet or on a grill until golden brown.

Step 7

Assemble the burgers by placing each patty on the bottom half of a toasted bun. Add some arugula or basil leaves for a fresh touch, if desired, and then close the burger with the top bun.

Step 8

Serve immediately, with additional marinara sauce on the side if desired.
