Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 0.5 lb ground pork
  • 0.5 cup Parmesan cheese
  • 0.5 cup Italian breadcrumbs
  • 1 unit large egg
  • 2 unit garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 0.75 cup marinara sauce
  • 6 slices mozzarella cheese, sliced
  • 6 units burger buns
  • 6 units fresh basil leaves

Directions

Step 1

In a large bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, Parmesan cheese, Italian breadcrumbs, egg, minced garlic, dried basil, dried oregano, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined. Avoid overmixing to keep the patties tender.

Step 2

Divide the mixture into 6 equal portions and shape each portion into a patty about 1 inch thick. Use your thumb to press a small indent into the center of each patty; this helps them cook evenly.

Step 3

Heat the olive oil in a large skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat.

Step 4

Cook the patties for 4-5 minutes on one side, then flip and cook for an additional 4-5 minutes on the other side, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).

Step 5

In the last minute of cooking, spoon a couple of tablespoons of marinara sauce over each patty and top with a slice of mozzarella cheese. Cover the skillet or pan with a lid to melt the cheese.

Step 6

Toast the burger buns lightly if desired. Place a cooked patty on the bottom half of each bun.

Step 7

Garnish the burgers with a fresh basil leaf before placing the top half of the bun on. Serve immediately and enjoy!
