Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground beef (80% lean)
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 4 ounces Mozzarella cheese (sliced or shredded)
  • 0.5 cup Marinara sauce
  • 4 slices Sourdough bread
  • 2 tablespoons Butter (softened)
  • 1 clove Garlic (minced)
  • 4 leaves Fresh basil leaves
  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until just combined. Form into two equal-sized patties, about 3/4 inch thick.

Step 2

Heat a skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat and lightly grease with olive oil. Cook the burger patties for 4-5 minutes per side, or until cooked to your desired doneness. Remove from heat and keep warm.

Step 3

While the burgers are cooking, prepare the garlic butter by mixing the softened butter with minced garlic in a small bowl.

Step 4

Spread the garlic butter evenly on one side of each slice of sourdough bread.

Step 5

Heat a large nonstick skillet or griddle over medium heat. Place two slices of bread, buttered side down, in the skillet.

Step 6

As the bread begins to toast, layer one burger patty, 2 ounces of mozzarella cheese, and 1-2 tablespoons of marinara sauce on top of each bread slice in the skillet.

Step 7

Place the remaining two slices of bread on top of the patties, buttered side up. Press down gently with a spatula.

Step 8

Cook for 2-3 minutes per side, or until the bread is golden brown and crispy and the cheese is melted.

Step 9

Remove the Italian Burger Melt sandwiches from the skillet and carefully open the top slices of bread. Add a basil leaf to each sandwich before reassembling.

Step 10

Cut each sandwich in half (optional) and serve immediately. Enjoy with a side of chips, salad, or roasted vegetables!
