Ingredients

  • 1.5 pounds Ground beef
  • 0.5 cups Breadcrumbs
  • 1 whole Large egg
  • 0.5 cups Yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoons Garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoons Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoons Black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 8 ounces Button mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 whole Yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups Beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons All-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons Unsalted butter

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, finely chopped onion, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until just combined and form into 4 oval-shaped patties.

Step 2

Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the patties and cook for 4–5 minutes on each side, or until browned. Remove patties from the skillet and set aside.

Step 3

In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of olive oil and sauté the sliced onions and mushrooms until softened, about 5–7 minutes.

Step 4

While the onions and mushrooms cook, in a small bowl, whisk together beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and flour until smooth.

Step 5

Push the onions and mushrooms to one side of the skillet. Add butter and whisk in the broth mixture, cooking for 2 minutes until thickened.

Step 6

Return the browned patties to the skillet, nestling them into the gravy. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the patties to cook through.

Step 7

Serve immediately over mashed potatoes or egg noodles, spooning the rich onion-mushroom gravy on top.
