Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground beef (80/20 lean-to-fat ratio)
  • 4 ounces Cheddar cheese (cut into small cubes)
  • 0.25 cup Breadcrumbs
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 4 Burger buns
  • 4 Lettuce leaves
  • 1 Tomato (sliced)
  • 0.25 cup Ketchup
  • 0.25 cup Mayonnaise

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently with your hands until the ingredients are combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.

Step 2

Divide the beef mixture into 8 equal portions and flatten each portion into a thin patty.

Step 3

Place a cube of cheddar cheese in the center of 4 of the patties. Place the remaining patties on top and carefully pinch the edges together to seal the cheese inside. Make sure there are no gaps, as this prevents the cheese from leaking out during cooking.

Step 4

Preheat a grill, skillet, or grill pan over medium-high heat. Lightly oil the surface to prevent sticking.

Step 5

Cook the stuffed patties for 4-5 minutes per side, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C) and the burgers are cooked through. Avoid pressing down on the burgers while cooking, as this can cause the cheese to escape.

Step 6

Toast the burger buns on the grill or skillet for about 1 minute, or until golden brown.

Step 7

Assemble the burgers by placing a lettuce leaf on the bottom half of each bun. Add the stuffed burger patty, a slice of tomato, and your choice of ketchup and mayonnaise. Top with the other half of the bun.

Step 8

Serve immediately and enjoy the melted cheese surprise in every bite!
