Ingredients

  • 500 grams Ground beef
  • 250 grams Ground pork
  • 1 small, finely chopped Yellow onion
  • 2 minced Garlic cloves
  • 1 cup Breadcrumbs
  • 0.5 cup Milk
  • 1 large Egg
  • 0.5 teaspoon Allspice
  • 0.25 teaspoon Nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 3 tablespoons Butter
  • 3 tablespoons All-purpose flour
  • 2 cups Beef stock
  • 0.5 cup Heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon Soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, finely chopped onion, minced garlic, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, allspice, nutmeg, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined but do not overwork the mixture.

Step 2

Shape the meat mixture into small, bite-sized meatballs, about 1-inch in diameter, and place them on a plate or a baking sheet.

Step 3

Heat 1 tablespoon of butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Fry the meatballs in batches, turning occasionally, until they are browned on all sides and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes per batch. Transfer cooked meatballs to a plate and set aside.

Step 4

In the same skillet, melt the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until it turns golden and forms a smooth roux.

Step 5

Gradually add beef stock to the roux, whisking constantly to avoid lumps. Simmer for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens.

Step 6

Stir in heavy cream, soy sauce, and Dijon mustard. Simmer for another 2 minutes, then taste and adjust seasoning if needed.

Step 7

Return the meatballs to the skillet, gently stirring to coat them in the sauce. Cook for 5 more minutes on low heat to allow the flavors to meld.

Step 8

Serve the Swedish meatballs hot with mashed potatoes or over cooked egg noodles. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
