Ingredients

  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 0.5 cup Milk
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 3 quarts Water
  • 2 tablespoons Butter

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt.

Step 2

Crack the eggs into the bowl and add the milk. Mix the ingredients with a wooden spoon or spatula until the batter is thick and smooth but still sticky. Avoid overmixing.

Step 3

Bring a large pot of water (about 3 quarts) to a boil. Add a pinch of salt to the boiling water.

Step 4

Using a spaetzle maker, colander, or a wooden board and knife, press or drop small amounts of the batter into the boiling water. Work in batches to avoid overcrowding the pot.

Step 5

Cook the dumplings for about 2-3 minutes until they float to the top of the water. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.

Step 6

Remove the cooked dumplings with a slotted spoon and transfer them to a bowl of cold water to stop the cooking process.

Step 7

Once all the dumplings are cooked, drain them well in a colander.

Step 8

In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the drained dumplings to the skillet and fry lightly for 2-3 minutes to coat them in the butter and warm them through.

Step 9

Serve hot as a side dish with your favorite stew or sauce. Enjoy!
