Ingredients

  • 1 can (5 oz) Canned tuna (packed in water, drained)
  • 3 tablespoons Mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons Celery (finely chopped)
  • 1 tablespoon Red onion (finely chopped)
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 0.25 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 4 slices Sliced bread (preferably sourdough or whole wheat)
  • 2 tablespoons Butter (softened)
  • 2 slices Cheddar cheese (slices)

Directions

Step 1

In a medium bowl, combine the drained tuna, mayonnaise, celery, red onion, Dijon mustard, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.

Step 2

Spread a thin layer of butter on one side of each slice of bread.

Step 3

Flip the bread slices over so the unbuttered side is facing up. On two slices, layer the tuna mixture evenly, then top with one slice of cheddar cheese per sandwich.

Step 4

Cover each sandwich with the remaining bread slices, buttered side facing out.

Step 5

Preheat a skillet or griddle over medium heat.

Step 6

Carefully place the sandwiches onto the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted.

Step 7

Remove the sandwiches from the skillet, slice in half if desired, and serve warm.
