Ingredients

  • 300 grams semisweet chocolate chips or chopped chocolate
  • 200 grams sweetened condensed milk
  • 15 grams unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 50 grams miniature marshmallows (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Line an 8x8-inch baking dish with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy lifting later.

Step 2

In a medium saucepan, combine the semisweet chocolate, sweetened condensed milk, and unsweetened cocoa powder.

Step 3

Heat the mixture over low heat, stirring constantly with a rubber spatula, until the chocolate is fully melted and smooth. Be careful not to overheat to prevent scorching.

Step 4

Once smooth, remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract.

Step 5

Pour the chocolate mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it out evenly with a spatula.

Step 6

If desired, sprinkle miniature marshmallows evenly across the top and gently press them into the surface.

Step 7

Let the mixture cool to room temperature, then cover the baking dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2-3 hours, or until firm.

Step 8

Lift the chocolate block out of the dish using the parchment paper overhang and transfer it to a cutting board.

Step 9

Using a sharp knife, cut the block into 1-inch cubes. Wipe the knife clean between cuts for neat edges.

Step 10

Store the cocoa blocks in an airtight container at room temperature or in the refrigerator. They will keep for up to 2 weeks.

Step 11

To serve, heat 1 cup (240 ml) of milk in a small saucepan or microwave until steaming, then stir in a cocoa block until fully melted. Enjoy your homemade hot chocolate!
