Ingredients

  • 2 cups Whole milk
  • 0.5 cups Heavy cream
  • 1 piece Black tea bag or loose-leaf black tea
  • 1 piece Cinnamon stick
  • 2 pieces Cardamom pods (crushed)
  • 2 pieces Whole cloves
  • 1 teaspoon Fresh ginger (peeled and sliced)
  • 3 pieces Black peppercorns (crushed)
  • 4 ounces Dark chocolate (finely chopped)
  • 2 tablespoons Brown sugar (or sweetener of choice)
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 0.25 teaspoon Ground cinnamon (for garnish, optional)
  • 0 optional Whipped cream (optional)

Directions

Step 1

In a medium saucepan, combine the whole milk and heavy cream over medium heat. Heat gently, stirring occasionally, until the mixture is just about to simmer.

Step 2

Add the black tea bag, cinnamon stick, crushed cardamom pods, cloves, sliced ginger, and crushed black peppercorns to the saucepan. Reduce the heat to low and let the spices steep for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Step 3

Remove the tea bag and strain the spiced milk through a fine mesh sieve into a clean saucepan to remove the whole spices and ginger.

Step 4

Return the spiced milk to low heat. Add the finely chopped dark chocolate and brown sugar, whisking constantly until the chocolate is fully melted and the mixture is smooth and creamy.

Step 5

Stir in the vanilla extract and taste, adjusting the sweetness if necessary.

Step 6

Pour the Hot Chai Chai Chocolate into mugs. Garnish with a sprinkle of ground cinnamon and a dollop of whipped cream if desired.

Step 7

Serve immediately and enjoy the fusion of chai spices and rich hot chocolate!
