Ingredients

  • 1 cup Textured Vegetable Protein (TVP)
  • 1 cup Vegetable broth or water
  • 2 tablespoons Soy sauce or tamari
  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon Onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Smoked paprika
  • 0.5 teaspoon Ground cumin
  • 0.5 teaspoon Chili powder (optional)
  • 0.25 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon Black pepper

Directions

Step 1

In a medium-sized bowl, mix the TVP, onion powder, garlic powder, smoked paprika, ground cumin, chili powder (if using), salt, and black pepper together until evenly combined.

Step 2

In a small pot, heat the vegetable broth or water over medium heat until it starts to simmer. Stir in the soy sauce or tamari.

Step 3

Pour the hot liquid mixture over the TVP and let it sit for about 5 minutes, allowing the TVP to rehydrate and absorb the flavors.

Step 4

Once rehydrated, fluff the TVP with a fork to separate the crumbles.

Step 5

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the rehydrated TVP to the skillet.

Step 6

Cook for about 7–10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the TVP is golden brown and slightly crispy.

Step 7

Taste and adjust seasonings if necessary. Serve immediately or use in recipes such as tacos, pasta sauces, or soups.
