Ingredients

  • 400 grams Firm tofu
  • 60 grams Rolled oats
  • 1 medium Carrot, grated
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 small Onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons Soy sauce
  • 60 grams Breadcrumbs
  • 1 teaspoon Ground paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cumin
  • 0.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoons Black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 4 Burger buns
  • 4 Lettuce leaves
  • 1 large Sliced tomato
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Press the tofu to remove excess water. Wrap it in a clean kitchen towel and place a heavy object on top for 10-15 minutes.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, crumble the pressed tofu using your hands until it resembles coarse crumbs.

Step 3

Add the rolled oats, grated carrot, minced garlic, chopped onion, soy sauce, breadcrumbs, ground paprika, ground cumin, salt, and black pepper to the bowl. Mix well until evenly combined.

Step 4

Using your hands, form the mixture into four equal-sized patties. Ensure they are compact to hold their shape during cooking.

Step 5

Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once hot, place the tofu patties in the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy.

Step 6

Meanwhile, lightly toast the burger buns in a dry pan or toaster for added texture.

Step 7

Assemble the burgers by placing a lettuce leaf on the bottom half of each bun, followed by the cooked tofu patty, a slice of tomato, and, if desired, a dollop of Dijon mustard. Top with the other half of the bun.

Step 8

Serve immediately and enjoy your homemade tofu burgers!
