Ingredients

  • 1 cup Unpopped popcorn kernels
  • 2 tablespoons Vegetable oil
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 tablespoons Butter (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Start by preparing a large pot with a lid. Ensure it is completely dry to prevent any splattering of oil.

Step 2

Add 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil to the pot and place it over medium-high heat. Test the oil by dropping in three popcorn kernels into the pot. Cover the pot with the lid.

Step 3

Wait for the test kernels to pop. Once popped, remove the lid and add the remaining 1 cup of popcorn kernels.

Step 4

Immediately cover the pot with the lid and gently shake the pot to coat the kernels evenly with oil.

Step 5

Continue to hold the pot and shake it occasionally to prevent the kernels from burning and to allow all kernels to pop evenly.

Step 6

Once the popping slows to about 2 seconds between pops, remove the pot from heat and let it sit for a minute to allow any last kernels to pop.

Step 7

Carefully remove the lid, and add 0.5 teaspoon of salt over the popcorn. For extra flavor, optionally melt 2 tablespoons of butter and drizzle it evenly over the popcorn, then toss to coat.

Step 8

Serve the popcorn immediately in a large bowl, or portion it into individual servings.
