Ingredients

  • 1 lb Ground beef (80/20 lean-to-fat ratio)
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 0.5 tsp Black pepper, freshly ground
  • 0.5 tsp Garlic powder
  • 0.5 tsp Onion powder
  • 4 pieces Burger buns
  • 4 pieces Cheese slices (optional)
  • 1 tbsp Vegetable oil or cooking spray
  • 4 pieces Lettuce leaves (optional)
  • 4 slices Tomato slices (optional)
  • 4 slices Onion slices (optional)
  • 4 slices Pickles (optional)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix gently using your hands until the seasonings are evenly distributed, but avoid overmixing to prevent dense patties.

Step 2

Divide the beef mixture into 4 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball, then gently press into a patty about 3/4 inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty with your thumb to prevent puffing during cooking.

Step 3

Heat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Lightly oil the grates or pan with vegetable oil or cooking spray to prevent sticking.

Step 4

Place the patties on the grill or skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes on the first side until browned. Flip and cook for another 3-4 minutes on the second side, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C) for well-done burgers. Add a cheese slice to each patty during the last minute of cooking, if desired, and cover with a lid to help the cheese melt.

Step 5

While the patties are cooking, lightly toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster for added texture and flavor.

Step 6

Assemble the burgers by placing a cooked patty on the bottom half of each bun. Add lettuce, tomato slices, onion slices, and pickles if desired. Top with the other half of the bun.

Step 7

Serve immediately with your favorite condiments such as ketchup, mustard, mayo, or barbecue sauce. Enjoy!
