Ingredients

  • 4 large Yellow onions
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon Butter
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Fresh thyme leaves
  • 0.5 teaspoon Fresh rosemary leaves (finely chopped)
  • 1 teaspoon Balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh parsley (chopped, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Peel and slice the yellow onions into thin rounds, keeping the slices uniform for even cooking.

Step 2

Heat the olive oil and butter in a large skillet over medium heat until the butter is melted and begins to foam.

Step 3

Add the sliced onions to the skillet and sprinkle with salt to help release their moisture. Stir well to coat the onions in the oil and butter mixture.

Step 4

Lower the heat to medium-low and cook the onions for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking or burning. The onions should soften and turn golden brown.

Step 5

Stir in the black pepper, fresh thyme leaves, and chopped rosemary. Continue to cook for another 5-7 minutes until the onions are deeply caramelized and fragrant.

Step 6

Add the balsamic vinegar to the skillet, stirring well to deglaze the pan and coat the onions evenly with the vinegar. Cook for 1-2 more minutes until the vinegar has reduced slightly.

Step 7

Remove the skillet from heat and transfer the herbed onions to a serving dish. Sprinkle with freshly chopped parsley for garnish.

Step 8

Serve warm as a flavorful side dish or topping. Enjoy!
