Ingredients

  • 2 5-ounce cans canned tuna
  • 0.3333 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon dijon mustard
  • 1 stalk, finely diced celery
  • 0.25 cup, finely chopped red onion
  • 2 tablespoons pickle relish
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 slices (sourdough or your preferred type) bread slices
  • 2 tablespoons, softened butter
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese
  • 1 medium, sliced (optional) tomato

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your skillet or griddle over medium-low heat.

Step 2

Drain the canned tuna thoroughly and transfer it to a medium mixing bowl.

Step 3

Add mayonnaise, dijon mustard, diced celery, chopped red onion, pickle relish, salt, and black pepper to the bowl with the tuna. Stir well to combine until creamy and evenly mixed.

Step 4

Butter one side of each slice of bread using the softened butter.

Step 5

On the unbuttered side of two slices of bread, evenly spread the tuna mixture.

Step 6

Top the tuna mixture with a slice of cheddar cheese. If desired, add a slice or two of tomato on top of the cheese.

Step 7

Cover the sandwich with the remaining two slices of bread, buttered side facing out.

Step 8

Carefully place the sandwiches onto the preheated skillet or griddle.

Step 9

Cook for 3-4 minutes on one side, pressing gently with a spatula to ensure even browning. Flip the sandwiches and cook for another 3-4 minutes, or until the bread is golden and crispy and the cheese is fully melted.

Step 10

Remove the sandwiches from the skillet. Allow them to cool slightly, then slice in half and serve warm.
