Ingredients

  • 500 grams Beef chuck
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 1 large Onion
  • 2 pieces Garlic cloves
  • 2 medium Carrots
  • 2 pieces Celery stalks
  • 2 tablespoons All-purpose flour
  • 250 milliliters Beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 100 grams Frozen peas
  • 500 grams Pastry dough
  • 1 piece Egg
  • 1 tablespoon Water

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F).

Step 2

Cut the beef chuck into 1-inch cubes. Season with salt and black pepper. Set aside.

Step 3

In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the beef in batches to brown on all sides. Remove and set aside.

Step 4

Chop the onion, mince the garlic, and dice the carrots and celery.

Step 5

In the same pot, add chopped onion, garlic, carrots, and celery. Cook until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.

Step 6

Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute to coat the vegetables.

Step 7

Gradually add beef broth while stirring to prevent lumps, followed by tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, and dried thyme. Bring to a simmer.

Step 8

Return the browned beef to the pot. Stir well and let simmer uncovered for 40-45 minutes until the beef is tender and the sauce thickens.

Step 9

Stir in the frozen peas and cook for an additional 5 minutes.

Step 10

Roll out half of the pastry dough on a floured surface and use it to line a 9-inch pie dish.

Step 11

Spoon the beef and vegetable mixture into the pastry-lined dish.

Step 12

Roll out the remaining pastry and cover the pie, trimming any excess. Seal the edges by pressing with a fork.

Step 13

Beat the egg with 1 tablespoon of water for an egg wash and brush it over the pie crust.

Step 14

Make a few small slits in the top to allow steam to escape.

Step 15

Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes until the crust is golden brown.

Step 16

Let the pie cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your homemade meat pie!
