Ingredients

  • 4 pounds Pork ribs
  • 2 teaspoons Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons Garlic powder
  • 1 cup Brown sugar
  • 0.5 cup Soy sauce
  • 1 cup Pineapple juice
  • 0.5 cup Ketchup
  • 3 tablespoons Honey
  • 2 tablespoons Rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 teaspoon Sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons Green onions, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon Sesame seeds (optional for garnish)
  • 2 sheets Foil

Directions

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C).

Step 2

Rinse the pork ribs under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels. Remove the membrane on the underside of the ribs if it is still attached, as this will make them more tender when cooked.

Step 3

Season the ribs evenly with 2 teaspoons of salt, 1 teaspoon of black pepper, and 2 teaspoons of garlic powder.

Step 4

Wrap the ribs tightly in foil, creating a sealed packet. Place the foil-wrapped ribs on a baking sheet and bake them in the oven for 2.5 hours, or until they are tender.

Step 5

While the ribs bake, make the Hawaiian barbecue sauce. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine 1 cup of brown sugar, 0.5 cup of soy sauce, 1 cup of pineapple juice, 0.5 cup of ketchup, 3 tablespoons of honey, 2 tablespoons of rice vinegar, 1 tablespoon of grated fresh ginger, and 1 teaspoon of sesame oil. Stir the ingredients well.

Step 6

Bring the sauce to a gentle boil and then reduce the heat to simmer. Let the mixture cook for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens slightly. Remove the sauce from heat and set aside to cool.

Step 7

When the ribs are done baking, remove them from the oven and let them rest for 10 minutes. Carefully open the foil and discard any accumulated liquid.

Step 8

Heat a grill to medium-high heat. Generously brush the baked ribs with the prepared Hawaiian barbecue sauce.

Step 9

Grill the ribs for 10–15 minutes, turning occasionally and basting with more sauce, until the ribs are caramelized and have a nice char on the edges.

Step 10

Remove the ribs from the grill and allow them to rest for 5 minutes before slicing them into individual ribs.

Step 11

Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds, if desired. Serve hot with extra barbecue sauce on the side.
