Ingredients

  • 1 lb Ground beef (80/20 blend for juiciness)
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 0.5 tsp Black pepper
  • 0.5 tsp Garlic powder
  • 4 Cheddar cheese slices
  • 4 Burger buns (preferably brioche)
  • 2 tbsp Butter
  • 4 Lettuce leaves
  • 1 Tomato, sliced
  • 1 Red onion, thinly sliced
  • 8 Pickle slices
  • 0.25 cup Mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp Ketchup
  • 1 tbsp Mustard
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix gently with your hands until just combined but do not overwork the meat.

Step 2

Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into patties about 1/2 inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty to prevent them from puffing up during cooking.

Step 3

Heat a skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. Once hot, place the patties on the skillet or grill and cook for about 4 minutes per side for medium doneness, or until your desired level of doneness is reached. Add a slice of cheddar cheese to each patty during the last minute of cooking to allow it to melt.

Step 4

While the patties are cooking, butter the inside of the burger buns. Toast the buns on a separate skillet or grill for 1-2 minutes until golden and slightly crisp.

Step 5

In a small bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, and Worcestershire sauce to make the burger sauce.

Step 6

To assemble the burgers, spread a generous layer of burger sauce on the bottom half of each toasted bun. Top each with a lettuce leaf, a slice of tomato, a cheeseburger patty, a few slices of red onion, and 2 pickle slices.

Step 7

Finish with the top half of the bun and serve immediately with your favorite sides like fries or a salad.
