Ingredients

  • 1 lb Ground beef
  • 0.5 cup Breadcrumbs
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 tbsp Creole seasoning
  • 1 tsp Garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Onion powder
  • 0.5 tsp Salt
  • 0.5 tsp Black pepper
  • 2 tbsp Vegetable oil
  • 1 Yellow onion, diced
  • 1 Green bell pepper, diced
  • 1 Celery stalk, diced
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 14.5 oz Canned diced tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp Tomato paste
  • 1 cup Chicken broth
  • 1 tsp Hot sauce (optional)
  • 2 tbsp Fresh parsley, chopped (optional garnish)
  • 4 cups Cooked white rice (for serving)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Creole seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.

Step 2

Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape into patties about 1-inch thick.

Step 3

Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add the vegetable oil. Once hot, add the patties and cook for 3-4 minutes per side until browned. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.

Step 4

In the same skillet, add the diced onion, green bell pepper, and celery. Sauté for 5 minutes until softened.

Step 5

Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.

Step 6

Stir in the canned diced tomatoes, tomato paste, chicken broth, and hot sauce (if using). Bring the mixture to a simmer.

Step 7

Return the browned patties to the skillet, nestling them into the sauce. Cover and simmer for 15 minutes, flipping the patties halfway through, until they are cooked through.

Step 8

Taste the sauce and adjust seasoning as needed. Garnish with chopped parsley, if desired.

Step 9

Serve the Hamburg Creole over cooked white rice, spooning the sauce generously over the top.
