Ingredients

  • 8 ounce refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 8 slice sliced deli ham
  • 4 slice sliced Swiss cheese
  • 2 tablespoon cream cheese, softened
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 teaspoon poppy seeds (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.

Step 2

Unroll the crescent roll dough onto the prepared baking sheet. Press the seams together to create one large rectangle.

Step 3

In a small bowl, mix the softened cream cheese and Dijon mustard until smooth. Spread the mixture down the center third of the dough lengthwise.

Step 4

Layer the slices of ham evenly over the cream cheese mixture, then top with the sliced Swiss cheese.

Step 5

Using a sharp knife or a pizza cutter, cut 1-inch strips on both sides of the filling, starting from the edges and working toward the center. Be careful not to cut into the filling.

Step 6

Fold the strips of dough diagonally over the filling, alternating sides to create a braided appearance. Tuck the ends underneath to seal.

Step 7

In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water to create an egg wash. Brush the egg wash over the braid.

Step 8

Sprinkle the top with poppy seeds, if desired.

Step 9

Bake in the preheated oven for 18 to 22 minutes, or until the braid is golden brown and cooked through.

Step 10

Remove the braid from the oven and let it cool for 5 minutes before slicing and serving.
