Ingredients

  • 2 pieces ham steaks
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 cup whiskey
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 cloves garlic cloves, finely minced
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons chopped parsley (for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Pat the ham steaks dry with paper towels and season both sides lightly with black pepper.

Step 2

In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil and 1 tablespoon of butter over medium-high heat.

Step 3

Add the ham steaks to the skillet and sear for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown. Remove the ham steaks from the skillet and set aside.

Step 4

Lower the heat to medium and add 2 tablespoons of butter to the skillet. Once melted, add the minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.

Step 5

Carefully pour the whiskey into the skillet to deglaze, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan.

Step 6

Stir in the brown sugar and Dijon mustard until well combined, then simmer for 2 minutes to reduce slightly.

Step 7

Pour in the heavy cream and whisk continuously, allowing the sauce to thicken, about 3-4 minutes. Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper.

Step 8

Return the ham steaks to the skillet, spooning the whiskey sauce over the top, and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to heat through.

Step 9

Garnish with chopped parsley and serve immediately with your choice of side dishes, such as mashed potatoes or roasted vegetables.
