Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ham steak
  • 3 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons Brown sugar
  • 0.25 cup Whiskey
  • 0.25 cup Heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 2 teaspoons Olive oil
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh parsley, chopped (optional for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add 2 teaspoons of olive oil and 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter to the skillet.

Step 2

Season the ham steak on both sides with salt and black pepper. Place it in the hot skillet and sear for 2-3 minutes on each side, until golden-brown and heated through. Remove the ham steak and set aside on a plate, tented with foil to keep it warm.

Step 3

In the same skillet, lower the heat to medium and add the remaining 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter. Once melted, stir in the brown sugar and minced garlic. Cook, stirring frequently, for about 1 minute until fragrant.

Step 4

Carefully pour in the whiskey, scraping the bottom of the skillet to deglaze any browned bits. Simmer for 2-3 minutes, allowing the alcohol to cook off and the liquid to reduce slightly.

Step 5

Reduce the heat to low and stir in the heavy cream and Dijon mustard. Cook for another 2-3 minutes, stirring continuously, until the sauce is smooth and slightly thickened.

Step 6

Return the ham steak to the skillet, spooning the whiskey sauce over it to coat. Cook for 1-2 minutes to warm the ham steak through.

Step 7

Remove the skillet from the heat. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley if desired, and serve immediately.
