Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry sheet
  • 6 slices sliced deli ham
  • 6 slices sliced provolone cheese
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Thaw the puff pastry sheet according to the package instructions, usually about 30 minutes at room temperature or overnight in the refrigerator.

Step 2

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.

Step 3

On a lightly floured surface, roll the puff pastry sheet out into a rectangle approximately 12x10 inches.

Step 4

Spread the Dijon mustard evenly over the puff pastry, leaving a 1/2-inch border around the edges.

Step 5

Layer the sliced ham evenly over the mustard, then layer the provolone cheese slices on top of the ham.

Step 6

Starting from one of the long edges, tightly roll up the puff pastry into a log. Seal the edge by gently pinching the dough together.

Step 7

Place the log seam-side down on a cutting board. Using a sharp knife, slice the log into 12 evenly-sized pinwheels, about 1 inch thick each.

Step 8

In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water to create an egg wash.

Step 9

Place the pinwheels cut-side up on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 1 inch apart.

Step 10

Brush the tops of the pinwheels with the egg wash. If desired, sprinkle with sesame seeds for added texture and flavor.

Step 11

Bake the pinwheels in the preheated oven for 18-20 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown.

Step 12

Remove the pinwheels from the oven and allow them to cool for 5 minutes on the baking sheet before serving.
