Ingredients

  • 1 package (2 sheets) Puff pastry sheets
  • 8 slices Cooked ham
  • 8 slices Cheddar cheese
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 tablespoon Water
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Butter (optional, for serving)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2

Thaw the puff pastry sheets at room temperature according to the package instructions.

Step 3

In a small bowl, beat the egg with 1 tablespoon of water to create an egg wash.

Step 4

On a lightly floured surface, unfold and roll out each puff pastry sheet slightly to smooth out the creases. Then cut each sheet into 4 equal squares, making 8 squares total.

Step 5

Spread a thin layer of Dijon mustard on each square, leaving a small border around the edges.

Step 6

Place one slice of ham and one slice of cheddar cheese onto each square.

Step 7

Fold each pastry square in half diagonally to create a triangle, enclosing the ham and cheese. Press the edges firmly together with your fingers or the tines of a fork to seal.

Step 8

Transfer the foldovers to the prepared baking sheet. Using a sharp knife, make a small slit or two in the top of each to allow steam to escape.

Step 9

Brush the tops with the egg wash to create a golden, shiny finish.

Step 10

Bake in the preheated oven for 18-20 minutes or until the puff pastry is golden brown and flaky.

Step 11

Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly before serving. Optionally, brush the tops with a bit of melted butter for extra richness.

Step 12

Serve warm, as is or with a side salad for a complete meal. Enjoy!
