Ingredients

  • 12 ounces egg noodles
  • 6 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 large yellow onion
  • 1 medium head green cabbage
  • 1.5 teaspoons salt
  • 0.5 teaspoons black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoons garlic powder (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the egg noodles according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Step 2

While the noodles cook, prepare the vegetables. Dice the onion into small pieces and slice the cabbage into thin strips.

Step 3

Heat a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add 4 tablespoons of butter and the olive oil to the pan.

Step 4

Once the butter is melted and bubbling, add the diced onion. Cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the onion is softened and translucent.

Step 5

Add the sliced cabbage to the skillet. Stir to combine with the onion, and sprinkle 1 teaspoon of salt over the mixture. Cook for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender and slightly caramelized.

Step 6

Season the cabbage mixture with black pepper and garlic powder (if using). Taste and adjust the seasoning with additional salt, if needed.

Step 7

Add the cooked, drained noodles to the skillet with the cabbage and onions. Toss everything together to combine evenly.

Step 8

Melt the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter and pour it over the noodle mixture. Gently toss to coat the noodles in the butter.

Step 9

Transfer the Halushki to a serving dish and garnish with chopped fresh parsley, if desired.

Step 10

Serve warm and enjoy!
