Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground lamb or beef
  • 2 Garlic cloves
  • 0.5 Red onion
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon Ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon Dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil
  • 1 cup Plain Greek yogurt
  • 0.5 Cucumber
  • 1 tablespoon Lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh dill
  • 4 Hamburger buns
  • 4 Lettuce leaves
  • 1 Tomato
  • 0.5 cup Crumbled feta cheese

Directions

Step 1

Peel and mince the garlic cloves. Finely dice the red onion.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground lamb or beef, minced garlic, half of the diced red onion, ground cumin, ground coriander, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly using clean hands until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.

Step 3

Divide the meat mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each into a burger patty about 3/4-inch thick.

Step 4

Heat a large skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat and add the olive oil. Once hot, cook the patties for 4-5 minutes per side or until they reach your desired level of doneness (internal temperature of 160°F for lamb or beef). Set aside to rest while you prepare the toppings.

Step 5

To make the tzatziki sauce, grate the cucumber and squeeze out the excess liquid using a clean kitchen towel or paper towel. Combine the grated cucumber with the Greek yogurt, remaining diced red onion, lemon juice, and fresh dill in a bowl. Stir until well mixed. Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper, if needed.

Step 6

Slice the tomato into thin rounds and prepare the lettuce leaves.

Step 7

Toast the hamburger buns lightly, if desired.

Step 8

To assemble each gyros burger, spread a generous amount of tzatziki sauce on the bottom half of the bun. Add a lettuce leaf, a cooked burger patty, a couple of slices of tomato, and a sprinkle of crumbled feta cheese. Finish with the top half of the bun.

Step 9

Serve immediately and enjoy your flavorful Gyros Burgers!
