Ingredients

  • 250 grams Unsalted butter
  • 250 milliliters Guinness stout
  • 75 grams Unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 400 grams Granulated sugar
  • 250 grams All-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons Baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 140 grams Sour cream
  • 2 pieces Large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 200 grams Cream cheese (for frosting)
  • 200 grams Powdered sugar (for frosting)
  • 2 tablespoons Heavy cream (for frosting)
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract (for frosting)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) and grease a 23cm (9-inch) round springform cake pan. Line the base with parchment paper for easy release.

Step 2

In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Add the Guinness stout and gently heat until warm (but do not boil).

Step 3

Remove the saucepan from the heat and whisk in the unsweetened cocoa powder until smooth. Then stir in the granulated sugar until fully dissolved. Set aside the mixture to cool slightly.

Step 4

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

Step 5

In another bowl, whisk together the sour cream, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth and combined.

Step 6

Pour the cooled Guinness mixture into the sour cream and egg mixture, whisking until fully combined and smooth.

Step 7

Gradually fold in the dry ingredients (the flour mixture) into the wet mixture, stirring gently until you have a smooth batter, ensuring no lumps remain.

Step 8

Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top with a spatula. Bake in the preheated oven for 45–50 minutes, or until a skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.

Step 9

Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 10

For the frosting, beat the cream cheese in a large bowl until smooth. Gradually add the powdered sugar and continue beating until well combined.

Step 11

Add the heavy cream and vanilla extract to the cream cheese mixture, beating until the frosting becomes light and fluffy.

Step 12

Once the cake has completely cooled, spread the frosting generously over the top. The finished cake will resemble a pint of Guinness with creamy froth on top.

Step 13

Slice and serve. Enjoy with a cup of coffee or, for the full experience, a pint of Guinness!
