Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend)
  • 0.5 cup Guinness beer
  • 1 medium yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 4 slices sharp cheddar cheese slices
  • 4 burger buns
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter (optional)
  • 0 (optional) lettuce, tomato, and condiments

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, Guinness beer, finely chopped onion, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently with your hands until well combined, being careful not to overmix.

Step 2

Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape them into burger patties about 3/4-inch thick. Make a small indentation in the center of each patty with your thumb to prevent it from puffing up during cooking.

Step 3

Preheat a grill, grill pan, or skillet over medium-high heat. Lightly grease the cooking surface with a small amount of butter or oil if needed.

Step 4

Place the burger patties on the hot grill or skillet and cook for 4-5 minutes per side for medium doneness, or adjust the time to your preferred level of doneness.

Step 5

During the last minute of cooking, lay one slice of sharp cheddar cheese on each patty and cover the grill or skillet to allow the cheese to melt.

Step 6

While the burgers are cooking, optionally toast the burger buns by spreading a thin layer of butter on the cut sides and placing them on the grill or skillet until golden brown.

Step 7

Assemble the burgers by placing each patty on the bottom bun. Add lettuce, tomato slices, and any condiments of your choice, then top with the other half of the bun.

Step 8

Serve immediately with your favorite sides, such as fries or a salad.
