Ingredients

  • 500 grams Ground beef
  • 2 pieces Garlic cloves
  • 1 medium Yellow onion
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin
  • 1 teaspoon Oregano
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons Cooking oil
  • 12 pieces Corn tortillas
  • 2 cups Cabbage
  • 1 large Lime
  • 2 large Tomatoes
  • 0.5 cup Fresh cilantro
  • 0.5 cup Queso fresco (optional)
  • 0 to taste Hot sauce (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Finely chop the garlic and onion. Shred the cabbage and set aside in a bowl.

Step 2

Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add the oil. Once the oil is hot, sauté the garlic and onion until softened and fragrant, about 3-4 minutes.

Step 3

Add the ground beef to the skillet. Sprinkle with cumin, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Cook until the beef is browned and fully cooked, about 8-10 minutes. Stir occasionally to break up the meat.

Step 4

Meanwhile, finely dice the tomatoes and roughly chop the cilantro. Combine them in a small bowl to make a fresh salsa.

Step 5

Squeeze the juice of the lime over the shredded cabbage. Optional: Add a pinch of salt for flavor. Toss well to coat.

Step 6

Heat the corn tortillas either in a dry skillet over medium heat or directly over a gas flame for a few seconds on each side until warm and pliable.

Step 7

Assemble the tacos: Place a spoonful of the cooked beef mixture onto each tortilla. Top with shredded cabbage, a generous spoonful of the fresh tomato-cilantro salsa, and a sprinkle of queso fresco if using.

Step 8

Drizzle with hot sauce if desired. Serve immediately and enjoy your Guatemalan Tacos!
