Ingredients

  • 6 pieces Bratwurst sausages
  • 3 cups Beer
  • 1 large Yellow onion
  • 3 pieces Garlic cloves
  • 2 tablespoons Butter
  • 0.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoons Black pepper
  • 6 pieces Hot dog buns
  • 1 optional Optional toppings (mustard, sauerkraut, relish, etc.)

Directions

Step 1

Peel and thinly slice the yellow onion. Mince the garlic cloves.

Step 2

In a large pot or deep skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onion and minced garlic, and sauté for about 5 minutes until they soften and become fragrant.

Step 3

Pour the beer into the pot with the onions and garlic. Stir in the salt and black pepper.

Step 4

Place the bratwurst sausages into the beer mixture. If needed, add more beer or water to ensure the brats are mostly covered. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer (do not boil), and cook the bratwurst for 15-20 minutes. This will infuse the sausages with flavor and keep them juicy.

Step 5

Preheat a grill to medium heat (about 375°F). While the grill is heating, carefully remove the bratwursts from the beer mixture and set them aside. Reserve the beer-onion mixture to use as a topping or side.

Step 6

Place the bratwursts on the preheated grill and cook for 10-12 minutes, turning occasionally to achieve an even char. The brats should have a golden-brown exterior with some grill marks.

Step 7

If desired, toast the hot dog buns on the grill for 1-2 minutes until lightly crisped.

Step 8

Serve the grilled bratwursts in the buns, topping them with the reserved beer-onion mixture and your favorite toppings, like mustard, sauerkraut, or relish.

Step 9

Enjoy your Grilled Bratwurst and Beer with a cold beverage on the side!
