Ingredients

  • 4 pieces Apples (e.g., Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Fuji)
  • 4 tablespoons Brown sugar
  • 4 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 teaspoon Ground nutmeg
  • 4 tablespoons Rolled oats
  • 4 tablespoons Chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon Lemon juice
  • 4 sheets Aluminum foil

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your grill to medium heat (about 375°F/190°C).

Step 2

Wash and core the apples, being careful to remove the seeds and create a well in the center without cutting through the bottoms. Lightly brush the apples with lemon juice to prevent browning.

Step 3

In a small mixing bowl, combine brown sugar, butter, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, rolled oats, chopped nuts (if using), and vanilla extract. Mix until a paste-like consistency forms.

Step 4

Stuff each apple's center with an equal portion of the filling mixture, pressing gently to make sure it is packed in.

Step 5

Place each apple on a sheet of aluminum foil, folding and crimping the sides to create a packet, leaving a bit of room at the top for air circulation.

Step 6

Place the foil-wrapped apples on the grill and close the lid. Cook for 20-25 minutes, flipping the packets halfway through, until the apples are tender but still hold their shape.

Step 7

Carefully remove the apples from the grill and let them cool for 5 minutes before unwrapping. Be cautious of escaping steam.

Step 8

Serve warm, optionally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
