Ingredients

  • 1 pound fresh green beans
  • 4 slices bacon strips
  • 1 medium yellow onion
  • 2 cloves garlic cloves
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 0.5 teaspoons salt
  • 0.25 teaspoons ground black pepper
  • 1 cup water

Directions

Step 1

Wash the green beans thoroughly and trim the ends. Set them aside.

Step 2

Chop the bacon into small bite-sized pieces. Peel and thinly slice the onion. Mince the garlic cloves.

Step 3

In a large skillet, heat the bacon pieces over medium heat. Cook until the bacon is crispy, about 5–7 minutes. Once done, remove the bacon with a slotted spoon and set it aside on a paper towel-lined plate.

Step 4

Drain most of the bacon grease from the skillet, leaving about 1 tablespoon for flavor.

Step 5

Add the sliced onion to the skillet with the remaining bacon grease. Sauté over medium heat for 5 minutes or until the onion has softened and started to caramelize.

Step 6

Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute, stirring to prevent burning.

Step 7

Push the onions and garlic to one side of the skillet. Add the butter and let it melt.

Step 8

Add the green beans to the skillet and stir them into the onion and garlic mixture. Cook for 2 minutes to lightly sauté them.

Step 9

Pour the water into the skillet. Cover the skillet with a lid and allow the green beans to steam for 4–6 minutes, or until they reach your desired level of tenderness.

Step 10

Uncover the skillet and continue cooking for another 2–3 minutes to allow any excess liquid to evaporate. Stir in the cooked bacon.

Step 11

Season with salt and ground black pepper to taste. Mix well to combine all the flavors.

Step 12

Transfer to a serving platter and serve hot. Enjoy your Green Beans with Bacon and Onion!
