Ingredients

  • 1 pound green beans
  • 6 slices bacon
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper
  • 0.25 cup water

Directions

Step 1

Wash and trim the ends off the green beans. Set them aside.

Step 2

Slice the bacon into 1-inch pieces.

Step 3

Heat a large skillet over medium heat and cook the bacon pieces until crispy, about 7-8 minutes. Remove the cooked bacon with a slotted spoon and place on a paper towel-lined plate. Reserve about 2 tablespoons of the bacon grease in the skillet and discard the rest.

Step 4

Mince the garlic cloves.

Step 5

In the same skillet with the reserved bacon grease, add the minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.

Step 6

Add the green beans to the skillet and toss to coat in the grease. Pour in 1/4 cup of water and cover the skillet with a lid. Steam the green beans for 5-6 minutes, or until they’re tender but still crisp. Stir occasionally.

Step 7

Remove the lid and let any remaining water evaporate. Add 1 tablespoon of butter to the skillet and stir it into the green beans.

Step 8

Sprinkle the green beans with salt and black pepper, then add the crispy bacon pieces back into the skillet. Stir to combine evenly.

Step 9

Serve the green beans and bacon warm as a side dish.
